How to Choose an App for Tracking Group Runs Live

Compare the workflows a group running app needs: shared starts, live maps, spectator links, route planning and clear privacy controls.

Start with the kind of group run you organise

The useful features depend on the session. A local social run needs a meeting point, an agreed pace and a route everyone understands. Friends running remotely need a shared start and a clear idea of what they are doing together. A club event may also need member joins, RSVPs and organiser tools.

Runwiv is a live social running platform in pre-launch. It is designed to connect shared sessions, live maps, browser spectators and club workflows. This guide explains how to evaluate that kind of app; it is not a claim that one app is the best choice for every group.

Five workflows to check

Check these using your actual devices and account permissions. A feature on a marketing page does not establish that it is available on every platform, plan or release.

Running locally with a club

Publish the start location, time, distance and expected pace. Explain how the group handles regrouping and whether runners can choose a shorter route. Use an event page to keep those details together. A map is helpful context, but it does not replace the organiser’s briefing or the agreed plan for the group.

Runwiv Club OS brings club pages, member joins, events, RSVPs and routes into the platform. Club subscriptions are not currently on sale; check the pricing page and launch updates before moving club operations.

Running together from different places

Remote friends can agree to start at the same time even when their routes differ. Decide whether the aim is conversation, an easy run, a time target or a friendly race. Different hills, surfaces and GPS conditions affect comparisons, so choose a format that makes sense for the group.

The running app with friends guide explains Runwiv’s intended shared-session experience and the difference between participating as a runner and following as a spectator.

Bring supporters into the session

A browser link makes it easier for a family member or friend to follow. Test the view before the session and explain that live updates can be delayed by connectivity or device settings. Share the link with the intended audience and end sharing afterwards.

Try the spectator demo to see the Runwiv viewing experience. The demo does not require you to publish a real runner’s location.

A simple trial before your first group session

Use a short practice session with a small group. Check the invitation, starting process, route preview and spectator view. Confirm that everybody understands the privacy controls. Note which devices and release versions you used, then review any problems before a larger event.
