Privacy Policy
Runwiv is a live social running platform — mobile app, Apple Watch companion, web spectator tools, and Club OS for crews. This policy explains what personal data we process, why we need it, who can see it, and the choices you have. We write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email support@runwiv.com.

info Overview
Runwiv Ltd (“Runwiv”, “we”, “us”) operates the Runwiv mobile apps, Apple Watch experience, websites at runwiv.com and runwiv.web.app, and Club OS tools for run crews. We are the data controller for personal data processed through the Platform when you use Runwiv directly.
We collect only what we need to run live sessions, maps, clubs, routes, and safety features. We do not sell your personal data and we do not use your data for third-party advertising.
Quick control checklist: revoke location in iOS/Android Settings, manage HealthKit permissions in the Health app, disconnect Strava or Spotify in Runwiv settings, turn off push notifications per channel, and delete your account from the Locker or by emailing us.
menu_book Definitions
database Data we collect
Depending on how you use Runwiv, we may process the categories below.
Account & profile
Name, display name, email, Firebase user id, profile photo, public athlete card fields you choose to publish, club memberships, and settings.
Precise location
GPS position, route traces, pace segments, meet-up pins, and map markers while a session is active or when you enable background tracking.
Health & fitness
Heart rate, calories, distance, pace, cadence, workout summaries from Apple HealthKit / watchOS when you grant permission. Not used for ads.
Content you create
Club channel messages, route geometry, voice notes, hype messages, photos, waivers signed, and run summaries stored to your account.
Device & technical
App version, device model, OS version, push notification tokens, crash logs, coarse performance analytics, and security logs.
Camera & wearable video (optional)
Point-of-view photos and video captured through a supported smart-glasses wearable (e.g. Meta Wearables-compatible devices) — only if you connect the device and switch the feature on yourself.
Integrations (optional)
Strava OAuth tokens and synced activities; Spotify playback state when you connect music services. Only if you opt in.
share_location Location & live sharing
Location is core to Runwiv — but you decide when it is collected and who can see it.
When location is collected
- While you have an active run or live session open in the app or on Apple Watch.
- When you join a squad, arcade room, club mass start, or other multiplayer session that shows a live map.
- When you enable optional features such as Radar, intercept requests, or background session continuity — only if you turn them on.
Who can see your live location
- Squad & multiplayer sessions: Other participants in the same session see your real-time position on the shared map.
- Spectator links: Anyone with your active live-share URL can view your position in the browser until the run ends or you stop sharing.
- Radar & nearby features: Approximate location may be visible to nearby runners only when you enable those features.
- Club sessions: Club admins and members in the same club event may see positions relevant to that event — not your unrelated personal history.
After your run ends
Completed GPS traces, splits, and summaries are stored against your account so you can review history, share results, and sync optional integrations (e.g. Strava). You can delete individual activities or your entire account.
GPS can be inaccurate or delayed. Runwiv is not a navigation or emergency-locator service. Do not rely on it for safety-critical decisions. Call local emergency services if you are in danger.
favorite Health & fitness data
If you grant permission, Runwiv reads health and workout metrics from Apple HealthKit (iPhone and Apple Watch) to display heart rate, calories, distance, and related stats on your HUD and run summaries.
- Health data is used only to power in-app features you enable — never for advertising or sale to data brokers.
- Apple Watch metrics flow through Apple’s health privacy controls; you can revoke access anytime in the Health app or iOS Settings.
- Runwiv is not a medical device and biometric readings are informational only.
- We do not diagnose conditions or provide clinical advice.
videocam Camera & wearable recording
Runwiv offers an optional integration with compatible smart glasses, including devices built on the Meta Wearables Device Access Toolkit, to capture point-of-view photos and video for Route Experiences. This is off by default and only activates if you connect a supported device and turn the feature on yourself in app settings.
- When it's collected: Only while you have a supported wearable connected and the camera feature explicitly enabled — never in the background and never without the on-device toggle being on.
- What we do with it: Captured stills and clips are used to power the Route Experience features you choose to use, such as attaching POV media to a route. They are not used for advertising and are not sold.
- Allowances & retention: Wearable video is metered separately from other Platform features (see Terms of Service) and is retained according to the allowance period for your plan, or until you delete the media.
- Your responsibility: You control what you record. Follow local laws on recording and consent, and be mindful of bystanders — see the Smart Glasses & Wearable Recording terms.
- Third-party device platforms: Connecting a wearable also involves the manufacturer's own platform (for example, Meta's systems for Meta Wearables-compatible devices), which processes data under that provider's own privacy terms in addition to ours.
settings How we use your data
We process personal data to:
- Authenticate you and operate your account across phone, watch, and web.
- Run live maps, pacing, squad radar, arcade modes, route navigation, and spectator views.
- Deliver club scheduling, channels, waivers, mass-start tools, and admin dashboards.
- Send push notifications you opt into (club announcements, session invites, hype alerts, safety broadcasts).
- Improve reliability — crash reports, aggregated analytics, and abuse prevention.
- Respond to support requests and comply with law.
Lawful bases (UK / EEA users)
Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Contract — to provide the Platform you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests — to secure, improve, and protect Runwiv, balanced against your rights.
- Consent — for optional integrations (Strava, Spotify), marketing emails where required, and certain health/location permissions on device.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose data by law.
group Who we share data with
Other Runwiv users
As described above, participants, spectators with a link, and club members may see data you choose to share in a session or club context.
Club administrators
If you join a club, admins may see your membership status, RSVPs, waiver signatures, participation in club events, and messages in club channels they manage. Admins must use member data only for legitimate club operations and applicable law.
Service providers
We use trusted processors to host and operate Runwiv. They may access personal data only on our instructions and under contractual safeguards. See Third-party services below.
Legal & safety
We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users and the public.
We never sell your personal data.
hub Third-party services
Google Firebase
Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging, Hosting, and Analytics/Crashlytics as configured. Data is processed under Google’s cloud terms.
Strava (optional)
If you connect Strava, we store OAuth tokens and import activities you authorise. Disconnect anytime in Runwiv or Strava settings.
Spotify (optional)
If you link Spotify Premium, we use their API for in-run playback controls. We do not receive your listening history for advertising.
Maps
Web maps may use OpenStreetMap tiles; mobile maps may use Apple or Google map SDKs. Map providers receive tile requests, not your account password.
App Store billing
Subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google are processed by those platforms. We receive purchase status, not your full card number.
language Web, cookies & analytics
When you use Runwiv websites (including spectator views and Club OS):
- Essential cookies & local storage — keep you signed in, remember preferences, and protect sessions.
- Firebase Authentication — persists login state in the browser when you use web admin tools.
- Analytics — we may collect aggregated usage and performance data to understand feature adoption and fix errors. We do not use cross-site ad tracking.
You can block cookies in your browser; some signed-in web features may not work without them.
groups Club OS & organisation data
If you create or join a club:
- Club admins can manage membership, events, channels, waivers, safety broadcasts, and live ops dashboards.
- Messages, route shares, and timeline cards posted in club channels are visible to channel members according to club settings.
- Waiver signatures and attendance records may be stored for the club’s operational and legal record-keeping.
- Club admins are independently responsible for using member data lawfully in their jurisdiction.
Members can leave a club; admins can remove members. Channel moderation tools (lock, close, remove messages) are available to admins.
lock Security
We protect data using industry-standard measures including:
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for app and web traffic.
- Firebase security rules and role-based access for Firestore and Realtime Database.
- Authentication via Firebase Auth (including Sign in with Apple where offered).
- Least-privilege access for production systems and audit logging for sensitive admin actions.
No online service is 100% secure. Report suspected issues to support@runwiv.com promptly.
schedule Retention & deletion
While your account is active
We retain account data, run history, routes, and club content so you can use Runwiv features and review your progress.
When you delete your account
- Delete from the Locker in the app where available, or email support@runwiv.com.
- We remove personal profile data and user-linked content within 30 days, subject to backup cycles.
- Some anonymised analytics and security logs may persist longer where necessary for fraud prevention or legal compliance.
- Club messages you posted may remain visible to the club in anonymised or admin-removed form depending on moderation state.
Integrations
Disconnecting Strava or Spotify removes stored tokens from your Runwiv account; previously imported activities remain until you delete them.
verified_user Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Restrict or object to certain processing.

We respond to verified requests within 30 days where required by law.

Runwiv is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. You must be at least 16 to create an account (or have a parent/guardian agree on your behalf if you are under 18), consistent with our Terms of Service.
